Publishing Options

Filament publishes both Fiction and Non-Fiction, plus Biographies, Mind-Body-Spirit, References, Photographic and Children’s Books. All titles go through our Submissions Process for evaluation prior to acceptance. This requires the commissioning of an independent Reader’s Report Our Submissions editor is Olivia Eisinger ( olivia@filamentpublishing.com )

Prior to acceptance for publishing, all manuscripts must have been professionally edited and free from spelling and grammatical errors. Where this is found not to be the case, additional costs will be incurred.

Book2Market Service

  • Your Personal Editor to manage your project
  • Unlimited use of our cloud-based Author Project Management System
  • Quality Control of all origination, files and processes
  • Issuing ISBN number for all version of the book
  • Creating and uploading a full data entry to enable to book to be found on book trade databases worldwide. This includes keywords, book categories
  • Setting up a global supply chain to enable the book to be ordered and supplied in all countries
  • Promoting the book to our list of book buyers in all of the chains and independent bookshops
  • Creating and circulating an Advance Information Sheet for booktrade
  • Promoting the new title through all of our channels, website and newsletters
  • Creating a bespoke mailing list of journalists, broadcasters and publications
  • Sending out Press Releases to promote the book and the author
  • Providing a contact point for all media enquiries
  • Providing a venue for a book launch at a shared event in the Institute of Directors in London’s Pall Mall
  • Creating “Book2Look” floating ‘Look Inside Pages’  for posting on Social Media
  • Creating a 2m high Pull-Up author banner for the book launch
  • Printing an initial 100 copies of the book for media enquiries

Cost of the Book2Market Package is £2,500 (Zero rated for VAT)

NOTE: This does not include:  Book design and layout, cover design, eBook versions, proofreading and book printing. All costs are subject to sight of manuscript. 

Books supplied to the author for them to sell, are at the authors special price which is calculated as Acutual Cost of Printing + 10% of the cover price.  This is a contribution to managing the supply chain.

We provide a fulfilment service to post oiut books on behalf of the author. This is costed at Actual Cost of postage + £1.20 for packaging and a contribution to labour.

Editing and Proofreading

Our expectation is that when a manuscript is submitted, it has been thoroughly edited and proofread before it reaches us. There should be no spelling or grammatical errors!

If editing is required, this will be quoted for separately, on sight of manuscript. Editors typically charge between £155 to £200 per day.

Final proofreading is to pick up typesetting and layout errors – not to fix issues that should have been picked up before the manuscript was submitted. If your manuscript does require more work before publication, this will be highlighted in the reader’s report.

Final Proofreading – once the book layout has been completed a final proofread is required. The cost is dependend on the length of manuscript.

Cost of proofreading is £155 to £200 per day

Creating eBook Versions

Converting the book into MOBI, EPUB and PDF. Applying a separate ISBN to each version and creating a separate ISBN data entry to each one. Publishing the ebooks to all major date warehouses and online retailers worldswide. This include Apple iBooks, Andriod platforms, Nook and Kindle

Author Royalties – Author receives 50% of net profit of all book trade sales and 60%/70% of all personal sales

Gold Standard Package – £6,000.  (Zero rated for VAT) Deposit of £2,000. Balance over 12 weeks and paid in full prior to publication.

Copies to British Library and Agency for Legal Deposit Libraries – includes Cambridge University Library, Bodleian Library Oxford University

NOTE: If your book has been written to promote you and your business, it is a business expence – and tax deductable.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Brenda Dempsey as our Education and Children’s Books specialist. Before becoming an author, trainer and inspirational public speaker, Brenda had a distinguished career as a teacher in the UK for over 25 years. She has extensive knowledge of the importance of writing books to appeal to particular age groups and ensuring that the vocabulary, structure and content are age-appropriate. She will be working with our children’s authors to help them really engage with their audience, and to make their books a commercial success.

New Children’s Book packages

Children’s books for Key Stage 1 ages 5 to 7.  Small book up to 50 pages

All Children’ book manuscripts require to be assessed by our education specialist to ensure that the vocabulary, structure and content is appropriate for the age group it is written for. The cost of this assessment is £100.

The cost of book printing is in addition to this and is dependent on the book specification and the quantity ordered.

Author Mentorship – Working with a dedicated author mentor to take you step-by-step through the origination, production and distribution process and help you to turn your book into a profitable business. Four, weekly sessions face to face (at our London events); or on phone, Skype or Zoom; £400

Children’s books for Key Stage 2 ages 8 to 10.  Medium book up to 150 pages

  • Assessment of manuscript by education expert (Reader’s Report) to ensure the vocabulary, sentence structure and content is age-appropriate and returned to the author for such adjustments to be made as necessary
  • We expect our authors to provide us with a fully proofread and polished manuscript ready for publication. Where this is not the case, we will highlight improvements required for the author to make. At that stage, should the author need editorial support, we will quote separately for this service
  • All illustrations and artwork supplied by the author to our specification. The author is responsible for supplying all illustrations for their book; however, we have excellent illustrators in our team who would be happy to quote separately for images in the book
  • We expect our authors to provide a manuscript that has been proofread and free from spelling and grammatical errors
